From Microsoft to Open Source

In some of my earlier posts I have talked about how I spent a large part of my career on Microsoft Platform, but using it and also working and specializing in it. With my joining Curologic , I have since then moved onto open source platform and java, hibernate, spring, angularjs are some of the technologies that I have been working with in the last one and half years. For the initial year or so I focused mostly on project architecture, overall technical guidance, timely project delivery, performance issues and any other issues, but all technology related. While I had been programming using Visual Studio on .NET and C#, I had been a bit hesitant to take the plunge with Eclipse and Java. They are similar i.e. Eclipse is similar to Visual Studio and java to C# (or vice versa), but I used to keep getting confused with the naming of versions, of editions and of versions and hence somehow kept my distance. However last few months, I finally broke the ice and dived in and must say that i...

The Year gone by

19th May 2014 was a milestone date in my career and I had written all about it here . Today, a year later, I think it is but expected that I look back and think about this year gone by.  I could not have imagined a life outside of Infosys for all the years I had been working there. A friend even had joked when he heard about my resignation, "How can you leave Infosys? I have been saving to come to your retirement party!". Afterwards, over the months I did think if I did miss Infosys and had shared my feelings here .  A year later now, it is time to do my personal annual appraisal and share the results. The catch is that this is a self appraisal and hence the results may be biased :). It has been an exciting 1 year outside the campus that's a dream come true for so many youngsters. While I am yet to complete 1 year at my new organization, Curologic , but I could not have asked for something better. Working in a start-up has its own challenges and you ...

Do I miss Infosys?

The other day I was driving to Hinjewadi for a meeting and as I drove on the Hinjewadi flyover, I suddenly felt a bit nostalgic. This was the road on which I had driven almost every day for the past 10 years and now for the last 4 months, since I left Infosys , I had not come this side. After the meeting, I caught up with few ex-colleagues from Infosys at Tamanna over a cup of tea. During our general chit chat and catching up, one of them asked me if I missed Infosys. Well, it would be wrong to say that I don't, but what is it that I really miss? As an employee, there are few things that mattered to me - the work, the people, the infrastructure, the development center. As I had stated in my earlier blog , the work was never really an issue and mostly I had enjoyed or loved whatever work I was doing. When I moved to Curologic , I had to suddenly change gears and had to move quickly from a pro-Microsoft person to getting my hands dirty on open source technologies. It has been ...
